The discipline of Aeronautical Engineering was introduced in SVIT in the year 2003. Aeronautical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is one of the highly challenging and exciting fields of engineering and technology with a broad range for career opportunities. Aeronautical Engineering has been very important discipline of engineering as it plays a vital role in the field of transportation and defense of the country. Aeronautical Engineering Course imparts knowledge to the students in areas of manufacturing and development of aircrafts, helicopters and missiles. This is the reason why an Aeronautical engineer has wide scope of employment in design, development and testing in the field of defense and space science. This course offers specializations in designing and planning, building, testing and operation of both commercial and military aircraft, ballistic capsules and space vehicles, as well as satellites and missiles. Thrust areas in the field of Aeronautical Engineering are Aerodynamics, Aircraft Design, Aircraft Structures, Aircraft Propulsion, Helicopter Engineering, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Avionics. The main objective of the department is to give students a broad exposure to all areas of Aeronautical Engineering and make them competent Aeronautical Engineers acceptable world over.
The department regularly arranges seminars, workshops, expert lectures to expose the students to new developments in the field of aeronautics. The department also arranges for industry visits and internships in companies like HAL-Bangaluru, Air India and Pratt & Whitney-Hyderabad to make the students have practical experience.
The department works to mould the students to become future engineers and innovators and make substantial contributions in the field of Aeronautical Engineering and be the noble world citizens.
To evolve as the premier learning centre of academic excellence, professionalism and social expectations through technical, research and managerial skills for their successful deployment in the Aviation field.

Name of the Laboratory - Operation and Maintenance lab
Aircraft system and instrument lab is equipped with a facility of PZL Rzeszów SO-3. PZL Rzeszów SO-3 is Polish turbojet engines designed by the Instytut Lotnictwa (Institute of Aeronautics ) and manufactured by WSK PZL Rzeszów, to power the PZL TS-11 Iskra jet trainer. The engine has a seven-stage compressor, annular combustion chambers, and a single-stage turbine. Overhaul life 400 hours. From PZL Rzeszów SO-3 Jet engine students can understand function of jet engine like fuel system, lubrication system, hydraulic system, engine starter, etc. In this lab, some sophisticated equipments are there. We have SO3 Turbojet Engine acquired from Indian Air force. Some detailed charts and diagrams of different systems of SO3 Turbojet Engine are also available. We have some miscellaneous system components of Boeing 737 Aircraft like stabilator trim screw, valves, oil and fuel pumps, safety equipments etc. In this lab some helicopter equipments are also available for study purpose. Students get practical exposure on real Aircraft components. We have some parts of gliders which was built by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. We have some Engine instruments, pressure instruments and avionics equipment in this lab as well.
Name of the Laboratory - Aerodynamics lab
In aerodynamics lab we have low speed subsonic wind tunnel. Wind tunnel is an equipment to measure an air property over the any solid object like Different types of Airfoil, Cylinder, Flatplate. Wind tunnels are large tubes with air blowing through them. The tunnels are used to replicate the actions of an object flying through the air or moving along the ground. Researchers use wind tunnels to learn more about how an aircraft will fly. The wind tunnel moves air around an object, making it seem as if the object is really flying.
Name of the Laboratory - Avionics Lab
Avionics means Aviation Electronics, a system used for Aircrafts controls and navigation. In this lab announciator panel, GPS module and many more equipments are available for students. We are developing cockpit shell for flight simulator. So that students can get virtual experience of operations of aircraft controls and instrumentation. They will be able to learn IFR and VFR flying also. That will help them to clear their Fundamentals of Avionics and instruments.
Name of the Laboratory - Aircraft Design lab
LCA Tejas is a beautiful feather of our department. This is 1/5 scale model of Tejas a Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and widely used to teach Double Delta wing, supersonic Aerodynamics, jet engine integration, weapon systems, control surfaces, cockpit agronomics, Aircraft design etc.
Name of the Laboratory - Design Engineering lab
Airframe of unmanned agriculture aircraft was built by students of Aeronautical Engineering of SVIT as an academic project of Design Engineering. This aircraft has been designed to spray 32 litres of pesticides to be spread in farms. Airframe is having 20 feet length and 30 feet wing span. Designed maximum take off weight will be around 230 kg. It can be equipped with 60 HP piston prop engine. It has been designed to be flown by 5 channel radio control system. This model is also useful to understand monocoque and semi monocoque construction of airframe. In this lab students gets hands on practices on sheet metal work like cutting, beading, drilling trimming, fitting , riveting etc. They learn overall sheet metal manufacturing processes for Aircrafts. They get knowledge about semi monocoque fuselage construction, sheet metal wing construction, horizontal stabilizer and vertical fin construction. Fix landing gear construction etc.
Name of the Laboratory - CFD and Modeling Lab
A well-equipped computer lab with advanced computing facilities is established for the benefit of the Aeronautical engineering students. High end terminals supported by latest hardware and softwares. At Geometric Modeling Lab students get professional training on 2D & 3D drafting of Aeronautical Engineering drawings using the latest version of CATIA V5-6R 2018 License software. To carryout various CFD & FEA analysis lab is equipped with 25 computers with latest configurations and ANASYS student version software installed in them.
